WEEK ONE - INTERNET
When I first add this module to my Spring 2017 semester, I was really interested because Internet is used by more than 3 billions people worldwide! So I feel that taking this module will be really useful for me in the future.
On the first week of class, I thought the material will be very basic and something that i already know. However, after the first class, I was really surprised that there were many information that I did not know and words that I never ever heard of!!! I mean, who would have thought that there were 4 versions of Web? ... See? I just realized that the history of Internet is not really that simple.
What's more, I just figured out that Internet is not really called "Internet" at the very beginning. It was apparently called ARPANET. It was established in 1964 and was shut down in 1990, the same year when Internet was first launched.
When the teacher showed us the live statistics about the Internet, I was really shocked at the increasing number of Internet users, websites and emails sent in a span of one day. I mean, how could the number of websites increase continuously without stopping? Well, I guess that is the POWER of Internet.
One other simple information that I never heard before is the existence of Extranet. I learned Intranet before, I knew how it works and what it is all about. But Extranet? No clue at all. So basically, after I skimmed through the slide show that the teacher gave us prior to class, I just figured out that Intranet is an internal Web used to share confidential information within an organization. Whereas Extranet is actually used by corporation to give access of the business's information to authorized users like suppliers, who are not a part of the organization.
Until next time!
